AI VFX Sprite Generator
Describe the effect and get it back as frames: a packed sheet on a transparent background, plus a GIF or loose frames if you want them.

What is an AI VFX sprite generator?
An AI VFX sprite generator turns a written description of an effect into the frames of that effect: an explosion, a lightning arc, a slash, an impact, an aura. Ludo generates the effect as a still, animates it, and packs the result into a sprite sheet of 4 to 64 frames on a transparent background, ready to drop into a game engine.

VFX sheets generated with Ludo
Every prompt shown is the real one that produced its effect. These previews are composited over a checkerboard so you can see straight through them, and the sheet itself downloads cut out, with alpha verified on every frame of every effect here.
An effect can start from an empty frame and build
No motion prompt made this sheet: three keyframes did, blank, full force, blank, and the animator filled in the rest. Below is the first 192 px take of the frost nova, exactly as it downloaded; the 544 px tile above and the holy bloom and arcane nova were made the same way.

- Up to three drawn keyframes: initial, middle, final. Any of them can be blank
- No motion prompt needed; the motion is derived from the frames
- Or give just a start and an end, and the effect grows between them: seed shard to full crystal, then hold

How it works
Describe the effect
Prompt it the way you would brief an artist, or upload an effect you already have.
Say what it does, or draw it
Describe the motion in plain English, or supply up to three keyframes and skip the prose.
Set frames, size, and looping
4 to 64 frames on a square grid, 32 to 384 px each, or max resolution for the largest frames the model will render. Loop mode on for states, off for one-shots.
Export the sheet
Download the transparent packed sheet, a GIF, or loose frames, and drop it into Unity, Godot, GameMaker, or Phaser.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI make explosion sprite sheets?
Yes. Describe the explosion in text and Ludo generates it as a VFX sprite, animates it, and packs it into a sprite sheet on a transparent background. Its demo explosion runs 36 frames over 2 seconds on a 6x6 grid at 640 px per frame: it opens on an empty frame, ignites from a spark, and plays once. The same generation also returns an animated GIF and the individual frames.
Do the effect sprites have transparent backgrounds?
Yes, and it is the point of the format. Every VFX sprite sheet Ludo generates comes back cut out, with a transparent background behind every frame, not just the first. Effects layer over characters, tiles, and UI with no visible box and no black plate to blend away. If you would rather keep the background, there is an option to export the sheet with it retained.
Can a VFX effect start from an empty frame?
Yes. An effect in Ludo takes up to three keyframes, initial, middle, and final, and any of them can be blank. A blank first keyframe is what lets an effect materialize from nothing, peak at full force, and clear the screen. The frost nova, holy bloom, and arcane nova demos were all built from keyframes with no motion prompt at all: the motion is derived from the frames themselves.
Can I control how an effect grows between two frames?
Yes. Sprite animation in Ludo accepts an optional final frame as well as an initial one: supply where the effect starts and where it ends, and the frames in between are generated. The demo ice crystal grew from a single seed shard as the start frame to a finished crystal fan as the end frame, then holds at full size. The effect lands on exactly the artwork you approved.
How many frames should an explosion sprite sheet have?
Ludo packs sheets of 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, or 64 frames, always on a square grid, at frame sizes from 32 to 384 px plus max-resolution and AI 1.5x upscale modes. For a burst like an explosion, 36 frames is a comfortable default: the demo effects run 25, 36, or 49 frames, rendered at max resolution so each frame lands at 544 or 640 px. Shorter counts such as 16 or 25 suit quick hit flashes and slashes that are over in under a second.
Can effect sprites loop?
Yes. Ludo's loop mode trims the animation for looping, which is what a state effect needs: an aura, an electric arc, a rippling water surface. Leave it off for one-shots like explosions, impacts and slashes, which should play once and stop.
What does a finished VFX sheet download as?
A finished VFX sheet from Ludo downloads as a packed sprite sheet with a transparent background behind every frame, plus an animated GIF and the individual frames if you want them. Frames sit on a square grid in playback order, so the sheet drops straight into the slicing tools in Unity, Godot, GameMaker, and Phaser. There is also an option to export the sheet with its background retained instead of cut out.
Can I make effect sprites for a top-down game?
Yes. Put the camera in the prompt. Ludo's water ripple demo was prompted as seen from directly above, and its ground impact the same way, so a splash, a ground crack, or a spell circle reads correctly for a top-down game. The result sits in the same style family as its side-on effects.
What kinds of effect sprites can it generate?
Anything you can describe as a game effect. Ludo's demo set alone covers an explosion, a lightning arc, a frost nova, a top-down water ripple, a holy bloom, a growing ice crystal, a magic aura vortex, an arcane nova, an energy slash, a torch flame, a magenta tracer beam, and a ground impact. Fireballs, heal bursts, shield bubbles, portal swirls, and pickup sparkles work the same way, and so does anything else you can describe.
Can I use VFX sprites commercially?
Yes. VFX sprites and the sheets you pack them into with Ludo are yours to use in commercial games.
