| Ludo CLI | MCP server | REST API | Unity plugin | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Setup | npm install, then ludo login in the browser | Add the server and API key to each client | An API key in your own code | Import the .unitypackage, paste an API key |
| Files | Pass local paths; results saved to disk | URLs and base64; results expire after 7 days unless downloaded | Result URLs; download within 7 days | Saved into your project's Assets folders |
| Token use | Low: reads only the commands it uses, and local files go in by path | High: loads every tool schema (30+) up front, and a local file has to be written out as base64 inside the tool call | Your code decides | Not an agent tool |
| Works in | Any terminal, any agent that can run commands, scripts and CI | MCP-enabled clients | Any language that can make HTTPS requests | The Unity editor (2020.2+) |
| Best for | Coding agents (recommended), building a game in a repo, batch work, automation | Chat assistants that can't run commands | Your own app, server or pipeline | Making assets without leaving Unity |

What a generation costs
API, MCP, CLI and Unity plugin requests consume credits, even on plans with unlimited web features. Each Pro or Studio plan includes a monthly credit allowance; here's what typical calls cost:
Video, sprite animation, and motion transfer are billed per second based on the model you choose (roughly 1.5-4 credits/second). See the full credit cost table for every feature.
FAQ
Do the web app, CLI, MCP, API and Unity plugin share credits?
Yes. They all use the same Ludo account, the same credits and the same models.
Can I use more than one?
Yes. They work side by side: for example the web app for exploring, the CLI in your game's repo and MCP in your assistant.
Should my AI agent use the CLI or MCP?
The CLI, if your agent can run shell commands, as Claude Code, Codex and Cursor can. It is the recommended way to give agents access to Ludo and uses far fewer tokens: the agent reads a short help page, then only the commands it needs, while MCP loads the schema of every Ludo tool into its context before the first request. It also passes local files by path and saves results to disk, so the agent never has to send or read base64. Use MCP for chat assistants that can't run commands.
Which plans include the CLI, MCP, API and Unity plugin?
The Pro and Studio plans. The web app works on every plan.
